Machlett FDX 1-2 Rotating Anode Tube (ca. 1960s) |

|
| This is a rotating anode tube for diagnostic use. It was manufactured by Machlett Laboratories Inc., of Springdale Connecticut. The date of manufacture is uncertain, but I would guess the 1960s. | |

It is not easy to tell from the photograph (above right), but this is a dual
focus tube. In other words, there are two cathode filaments: a small one to
produce a small focal spot (e.g., 1 mm x 1 mm) that would provide maximum
image detail, and a large one to produce a large focal spot for higher
loading. If you look closely, you might also be able to tell that the glass
next to the cathode has been ground thinner to produce a rectangular window. Size: 10" high, 4" in diameter |
