Meeting of the RIA Users Organization Executive Committee with University of Chicago and Michigan State University Representatives
December 15, 2004

On December 15, 2004, the RIA Users Organization Executive Committee met with Don Geesaman (UofC) and Konrad Gelbke (MSU) at the O'Hare Airport Hilton. The meeting was called to discuss with University of Chicago and Michigan State University representatives the role of the RIA users during the next stages of the project. The discussions lasted the entire day and covered the following topics:

  • RIA specifications and experimental equipment
  • Equipment ownership
  • The use of RIA equipment prior to the start of operations
  • Possible RIA satellite centers
  • RIA and prospects for university positions
  • Data ownership
  • Advisory committees at RIA
  • RIA Theory
  • The role of RIA in education and outreach
  • Reaching potential RIA Users from outside nuclear physics
  • RIA Users Organization support by the RIA facility

It was felt that it was a productive meeting, bringing into the open many points for discussion. The exchange of ideas with Don Geesaman and Konrad Gelbke was open, cordial and productive.
