Nuclear Bomb Effects Computer, Revised Edition (1960s)

This Nuclear Bomb Effects Computer (5" diameter) was produced by J. B. Carroll Company of Chicago. I believe they were distributed in a pocket on the inside back cover of the Atomic Energy Commission publication "The Effects of Nuclear Weapons." Nevertheless, the paperwork that came with the computer says "This computer is sold separately by the Superintendent of Documents for $1 and is not included in the price of the book, "The Effects of Nuclear Weapons" which sells for $3." The computer is identified as the "Revised Edition 1962." See the original version of the computer.

The photo shows a portion of the cover of the first (1957) edition of "The Effects of Nuclear Weapons." It has been autographed by Edward Teller, sometimes described as the "Father of the H-Bomb." This copy does not have a pocket in the back for a computer.

The revised edition operates much like the original version except that it provides more information. Some of the additional information is of a general nature (e.g., biological effects) and some is specific (e.g., the velocity of broken glass or a person).
