Environmental Monitoring Online Training Course
Training course introduces theories and methods of measuring outdoor radiation levels
ORAU's Professional Training Programs (PTP) is now offering a new way to experience the traditional one-week Environmental Monitoring course that is offered at our training facilities in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. We are now offering a blended Environmental Monitoring course that contains both online and in-class training. The lecture materials in the online course will be delivered via self-paced modules and webcasts. The laboratory exercises will be delivered in-class at the ORAU PTP training facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where we will employ safe distancing, smaller lab groups, and disinfection protocols.
Participants may sign up for the Online course (Option 1) or the Online course + In-class Laboratory Exercises course (Option 2).
This option greatly reduces the on-site presence of the participant and the costs of travel, lodging, and per diem, while presenting all of the great instructional topics and content you have come to expect.
The American Academy of Health Physics grants 24 Continuing Education Credits for completion of this course.
Monitoring programs for environmental radioactivity have been, or are being, established at many facilities. It is essential to ensure that the appropriate types of samples are collected, that the appropriate measurements are made, that the correct sampling and measurement techniques are employed, and that the best locations for these samples and measurements are selected.
To help meet the need for trained personnel in this area, ORAU developed Environmental Monitoring – Online course. It is self-paced and can be completed as time allows. The course includes 17 modules. In order to successfully complete the course, you will be required to pass an exam. A passing score is 70 out of 100. You will have three attempts to successfully complete the exam. Upon successful completion of the exam, a course certificate of completion will be provided. Course materials are available on the ORAU PTP Learning Management System.
A list of the modules included in the course is provided below along with instructions about the registration process. This course is the equivalent of taking only the lecture component of the instructor-led course at the PTP training facility. PTP instructors will be available via email, phone, or Microsoft Teams to answer questions and provide assistance when needed.
This online course can be completed independently or as part of the new blended Environmental Monitoring course. If you are planning to complete the blended course, you must also complete the laboratory course. The full requirements for the blended course are listed below:
- Environmental Monitoring – Online
- Environmental Monitoring – Laboratory Exercises
This online course is for individuals who are designing and/or implementing environmental monitoring programs and have limited practical and/or theoretical experience in this area.
$1,197 - The tuition includes access to the course materials via the ORAU Learning Management System.
If you have additional questions about this course, please contact the Registrar.
These are asynchronous (self-paced) online courses. The training staff recommends that you complete the training within six months of enrollment. Once registration is complete, you will receive an email confirming that your registration has been received. Once your payment has been confirmed, you will receive an email containing your user name and temporary password if this is the first time you have registered for an online course. If you have registered before, you will receive notification that the course is now available.
Each course contains a series of modules/exercises to be completed. When all modules are complete, you will be granted access to the exam. A passing score is 70 out of 100. You will have three attempts to successfully complete the exam. Upon successful completion of the exam, a course certificate of completion will be provided.
