The Science Education Programs at Oak Ridge National Laboratory are managed by ORAU through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE).

Established as an official U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) institute in 1992, with programs dating back to 1946, ORISE is a national leader in science education and research.

Through the management of ORISE, ORAU directly supports DOE’s national agenda. We strive to advance science education and research programs, with a vision to be a national leader in doing so.

Fundamental to ORISE’s mission objectives are:

  • Strengthening our nation’s research and development enterprise through education and research participation programs
  • Ensuring the readiness of our nation to respond to terrorist incidents and other emergencies
  • Protecting workers, the public, and the environment through research, outreach, and verification activities.
